The Impact Of Roy Hodgson

The revival of Liverpool under the guidance of new manager Roy Hodgson can be seen after 4 games in charge this season – 3 in Europa League and 1 in premiership against Arsenal. Expectation and confidence suddenly rise at Anfield after a few months of gloaming era under Rafa Benitez last season. Most of the legends such as King  Kenny and Ian Rush agrees that he is the right man to lead Liverpool in the new era.

  • The first moves that makes he is an instant crowd favourite is key players Steven Gerrand and world cup winner Fernando Torres commitment to the club. These two players is important for him to bring back glory to Anfield.

  • The  ability of him to lure Joe Cole to sign for the club although there is interest from Arsenal, Spurs and Man U who can give him Champion League football. While most  pundits says that he went to Liverpool due to money, but the history and tradition of the club is something that we cannot rule out in order for us to attract new players.

  • Youngster given chance to play. Martin Kelly and Danny Pacheco the two highly rated youngster in the squad was given chance to play in the Europa League playoff. Surely more youngster will be given chance to play in FA Cup and Carling Cup this season.

  • Fringe players plays with more confidence. Players such as David Ngog makes a good start this season and I do hope he will be able to do the same magic into Ryan Babel.

  • Liverpool changing style of play. He try to adopt different style of play and against Robotnicki and Trabzonspor there is some free flowing football from Liverpool and it will be improve once the new players such as Cole and Jovanovic gels with the others.

Roy’s Europa preview

Roy Hodgson admits he will face something of a balancing act to keep Liverpool fighting on all fronts if they’re to progress in Europe this season. The Reds take on Trabzonspor in the first leg of the Europa League play-off tie at Anfield this evening aiming to take a big step towards the group stage of the competition. It’s a tournament Hodgson holds fond feeling for, having guided former club Fulham to the Hamburg final last term against all odds.

However, he acknowledges an extended European jaunt – in addition to the international scheduled – can have a knock-on effect on a team’s domestic aspirations, such is the demand it places on players. But the manager will be doing all he can to ensure that does not happen at Anfield this season.

Roy: Joe will help Stevie

Roy Hodgson believes having Joe Cole in the team will bring the best out of Steven Gerrard. The arrival of Cole means the skipper could be asked to operate in a deeper midfield role, as witnessed in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Sunday. Hodgson thinks this is where Gerrard is at his most effective.

“I don’t think Steven has to adjust his game at all. I think he’s more than happy to play in the position he played in,” said the gaffer.”He’s possibly happier and more influential in that position than when he plays as the one behind a striker or in an offensive midfield role.”I think Joe’s arrival at the club will help Steven to play in a position where I think we get the best out of him.”

Roy on Arsenal, Masch and Joe

Roy Hodgson was full of praise for the battling performance of his Liverpool players – but admitted to being left frustrated by the manner of the 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Anfield. With the scoreline still goalless, Joe Cole was sent off on his league debut for the Reds on the stroke of half-time after a challenge on visiting centre-back Laurent Koscielny, who himself was later dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Nonetheless, David Ngog fired the hosts into an early second-half lead – but Pepe Reina’s 90 minute own goal rescued a point for the Gunners.Hodgson told a post-match press conference: “It was a fantastic effort but points are hard to come by in the Premier League and when you get so close, you can’t avoid the feeling of disappointment.

“Maybe that second-half performance deserved all three points and not just one, albeit if at half-time someone had said we’d get a 0-0 or 1-1 draw I probably would have accepted that.”But to concede so close to the end to a rather scrappy goal was tough on us. The boys did everything they could do and it was an excellent game of football. I hope the fans enjoyed the spectacle.

Liverpool Manager Roy Hodgson Dismisses Reports Javier Mascherano Is Set For An Imminent Barcelona Move

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has swatted aside fresh speculation about Javier Mascherano by insisting the “day does not seem to be imminent” when he leaves. Mascherano, 26, has told his new boss of his desire to leave the club and has been linked with Inter and Barcelona. After reports in Argentina emerged last night claiming that Barca have agreed a deal for the Argentine, Hodgson went on the defensive in front of the media this afternoon.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s match against Arsenal, he said the arrival of Christian Poulsen does not mean Mascherano is about to be sold: “At the moment Javier Mascherano has shown no signs of going.

“It’s not a question of ‘are you going to replace Mascherano?’ I believe Javier will play for us and Christian Poulsen will play for us”I’m happy to have both players. This is a big club with a lot of games to play this year.”Hodgson added: “We talk about football and he’s made no indication further to the meeting when I came here that he would like to leave.

“He’s been getting on with his work and training properly.”As far as I’m concerned, he is a Liverpool player and will be until the day someone signs him and that does not seem to be imminent.”
